Craig S. Dukerschein, age 66, passed away unexpectedly from an undetermined illness on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at his home. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on July 23, 1958, the fifth and youngest child of Dr. Franklin N. and Mrs. Margaret B. Dukerschein. He was raised in Oregon, Wisconsin and graduated from Oregon High School in 1976.
Craig studied music theory and composition at the University of Miami for three years, then changed majors and universities, and in 1983 received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
After graduation, Craig moved to Seattle, Washington and worked for Boeing Aerospace as a Systems Software Engineer, then subsequently became an independent software engineering consultant for the rest of his career, working with corporations across the United States including Lear Siegler, Northrop Grumman, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Motorola, Hamilton Sundstrand, United Technologies and Collins Aerospace. He retired in 2018.
Craig married Kelly J. Homan of Rockford in 1993 and, after living in Chicago, they moved to Barrington Hills, Illinois in 1998 where they bought a home designed and originally owned by renowned Chicago modernist architect Harry Weese.
Craig had widely diverse interests including music and music composition (especially jazz and classical), drums and percussion instruments, cooking and baking science, genealogical research, neuroscience, politics, poetry, architecture, history, technology, art and more.
He is survived by his wife Kelly of 31 years; siblings, Douglas N. Dukerschein (Deb) of Candia, NH; Dr. Patricia L. Eaton of Lake Geneva, Wis.; Laurie Dukerschein Flom (Mark) of Mooresville, NC; and five nieces - Haley Flom, Anna Flom, Hannah Dukerschein, Katelyn Eaton, and Nicole London. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Dukerschein, his sister, Constance J. Dukerschein and his nephew, Marcus S. Eaton. Craig was cremated and his ashes will be buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Berlin, Wisconsin.
A gathering of friends will be held at a future date to celebrate his life, friendships, and memories.
