Daniel Gilly

Funeral services for Daniel R. Gilly,80, of Elgin, formerly of Marengo, Algonquin, and Barrington, will held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home.

 

Born November 24, 1931 in Barrington, he passed away Monday, Feb. 20 at his home in Elgin. He enjoyed sports, fishing, and spending time with his family.  He was a past president of the Algonquin Area Youth Organization.  He worked as a parts manager and service writer for Freund Brothers International Harvester in Barrington, and later worked on the maintenance department for Good Shepherd Hospital and Good Shepherd Manor.

 

Survivors include his children, Gary (Jay) Gilly of Carpentersville, Gail (David) Olsen of Elgin, Daniel A. Gilly of Carpentersville, Brian (Cheryl) Gilly of Carpentersville and Jeffrey Gilly of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Todd (Kasey) Gilly, Kristi (Dan) Hopp, Mary Anna (Christian) Koscinski, Dena (Edgar) Huerta, Sarah (Matthew) Hitchings, Laura (Jason) Snyder, Erik (Samantha) Gilly, Katelyn Gilly and Charles Gilly; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Mea, Landon, Thomas, Ashton, Tyler, Gavin, Logan, Grace, Jayden, Alyssa, and Jaelyn; a brother, Earl (Rosemary) Gilly, and two sisters, Velma (James) Willis and Maryann (Lawrence) Roesslein; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene (nee Shuett), whom he married December 6, 1952 in Barrington, an infant son, parents Daniel and Mary (nee Winkler) Gilly, and siblings Alice Walker, Robert and Charles Gilly, and Ethel Baresel.
