Daniel John Koby

Daniel John Koby, 73, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017.

He was born June 8, 1944 in Chicago to the late Stephen and Stella (nee Iwaniec) Kobylinski.

Dan was the loving husband of Pam; cherished father of Danielle (Daniel) Rucci and Stephanie Koby; proud grandfather of Maximilian; beloved uncle of Dana (John) Doran, Laura (Buddy) Koby-Zuckerman, Linda Kolby, Michael (Kathy), David, Justin (Holly), and Spencer (Kat); and adoring great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Roberta and Stephen.

Dan graduated from Carthage College in 1967 where he was not only the president of his class, but also of the Beta Phi Epsilon fraternity. He proudly served in the United States Army in Viet Nam, and earned two purple hearts plus the silver Medal of Honor. Dan then became a sales executive for the CBS television network for 27 years.

During retirement he enjoyed fly fishing with the Anglers Club and his daughters, hunting with his German Short-haired Pointers, and cooking delicious dinners for his family and the neighborhood.  He was a tremendous storyteller, enjoyed entertaining and always knew how to lift others’ spirits and make people laugh.

Friends are welcome to visit with Dan’s family on Tuesday, December 19 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E Main St., Barrington. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
