Darlene F. Sass (nee Homuth), 96 of Barrington
Born August 11, 1919, she passed away January 23, 2016 at her home in Barrington.
Darlene was a lifelong resident of Barrington. Her grandfather, a carpenter, immigrated from Germany and was a founding member and settler of Barrington. He built and ran the General Store at the corner of Cook and Station Streets.
Darlene was a member of the Women’s Auxillary for the Knights Templar for over 60 years. She was a Charter Member of Barrington Area Book Review Club and taught the Joy Sunday School class at Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Karla (late Charles) Neumann; son Charles “Chuck” Sass; grandchildren, Jennifer (Clay) Leap and Bradley (Kali) Sass; and great grandchildren, Brayden, Maylen, and Grady Sass. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Sass Jr. in 1999 after 54 years of marriage, and sister Deloris Homuth.
Visitation will be held from 4-8pm Friday, January 29 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St (Lake-Cook), Barrington.
The funeral service will be at 10am, Saturday, January 30 at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Lincoln Ave, Barrington. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
