David Drew

David Thomas Drew, 61, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014.

He was the cherished husband of Bonita Drew (nee Laird); loving father of Rebecca (Robert) Huffman and Melissa Drew; and proud grandfather of Benjamin David and Sydney Marie Huffman. He is also survived by his mother, Audrey Drew; brothers, Richard (Kathy) and Donald (Paula); sister, Diane Drew; nieces and nephews, Nicki (Ryan) DeKoch, Danny (Sara), Zachary, and Emily Drew; goddaughter, Ashley Bean Buchanan; and brother-in-law, Charles Laird.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thaddeus Drew and in-laws, Joseph and Eva Laird.

David was a 1974 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He currently was the Director of American Cribbage Congress (ACC) and a member of Grass Roots Club 13, Crystal Lake. He felt at home outdoors and had a passion for gardening. Keeping his plants and flowers blooming was one of his favorite hobbies along with enjoying the birds and butterflies that surrounded him while doing so. An avid Packers and Brewers fan, his Wisconsin roots followed him wherever the road took him. Whether traveling for work or pleasure, David always enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people. He will be sadly missed by many.

Visitation will be from 4-8pm, Thursday, March 27, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am, Friday, March 28, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting memorials and will be distributing them to a few of David’s favorite charities.
