David Hoffman

David Boyd Hoffman, 58, of Fox River Grove, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014. He was born June 14, 1955 in Highland Park, IL to Robert and Jane (nee Boyd). On May 2, 1981, he married Susan Garetto in Chicago. They spent the early years of their marriage in Colorado enjoying the outdoors and skiing where Dave was the Silverthorne Park Director.

Dave was a commercial real estate broker for 20 years and had recently formed his own commercial real estate business. He was very active in the community and had a passion for kids and baseball. He was a coach for over twenty years in the Cary-Grove communities, including with Cary Travelers. Dave was a father-figure to many and will be truly missed.

Among his passion for baseball, he also loved the outdoors and nature. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking his son, David, on many trips to Canada over the years. He was well-known for his love of dogs, not just one specific breed, but owned many different kinds. Dave loved his country with great passion and was proud to fly his Prisoner of War flag.

Besides his wife, Susan, Dave is survived by his son and best friend, David, of Fox River Grove, with whom he loved to spend time and enjoy a ball game; mother, Jane Hoffman of Barrington; brother Mark (Mary) of Lake Forest; mother-in-law, Janet Garetto of Blue Island; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his grandparents.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 16, from 2-6pm at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 West Main Street (Lake Cook Rd.), Barrington, IL. There will be a funeral service at the funeral home Monday, February 17, at 10am. Burial will be private at Evergreen Cemetery.
