David Koester

David William Koester of Barrington, IL passed away July 3, 2015 at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington. He was born October 17, 1938 in Detroit, MI, to Margaret (Davidson) and Gustav Koester.

If you knew Dave you knew his warm smile and unpretentious way. His family, friends, and neighborhood friends were his life.

Dave graduated from Michigan State University in 1960. He proudly served in the US Army. He worked many years in the insurance industry, retiring in 1993 at age 55 from CNA Insurance as Vice President and Chief Administration Officer.

Dave’s hobbies were many and varied. Genealogy, world traveler with family and friends, self-taught computer geek, old house rehabbing and cooking were all important to him. He lived life to the fullest.

Dave is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda, daughter Jacqueline (Mark) Sagan, son Douglas (Katie), grandchildren, Kalie, Cora, Gus, and Willym, sister Barbara Lyall, and brother Jim (Debbie), of Florida. He was very close to all his family and left lasting memories for his grandchildren.

Also, a very special thank you to all his neighborhood “family”. He loved you all.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Dave’s memory may be made to Wounded Warriors or JourneyCare Foundation.
