David McClintock

September 16, 1924 — October 16, 2011

Barrington, Illinois,

Longtime Barrington resident David Clarence McClintock,87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16,2011, in Barrington.

David was born in Auburn, Indiana, to Clarence and Louise McClintock, on September 16, 1924. He entered Northwestern University in Sept. 1942, but was called into the Army in April 1943. After basic training, David was selected for special training at Rutgers University. In April 1944 he was sent to Los Alamos, NM, to work for the Army Corps of Engineers. There he built equipment that was used in the testing of the atomic bomb. In Aug. 1945 David was honorably discharged from the Army, following a bout of rheumatic fever. He returned to NU to finish his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering.

David started working for Sargent & Lundy Engineering (Chicago) in Sept. 1948. He became an Associate in 1966 and a partner in 1969, helping to design nuclear power plants and power stations for Commonwealth Edison and other clients.

David met the love of his life, Carol (nee Raymond), through the Post Kollege Klub, that was a part of the First United Methodist Church of Evanston, IL. They were married on August 16th, 1952. Shortly after their marriage, they purchased 5 ½ acres of wooded property in Barrington Hills. Working on nights and weekends, David was able to plan and build their future home, even as their family began to grow! In 1957 their home was ready for occupancy. The family quickly grew to include two daughters and two sons. The family became members of Barrington United Methodist Church.

Following retirement from Sargent & Lundy in 1984, David became involved with the Barrington Historical Society, where he served as Treasurer. He also served on the Board for the Elgin Symphony Orchestra. Dave enjoyed classical music, and he and Carol were faithful attenders of ESO concerts for many years.

In 1991, David became interested in the redevelopment of downtown Barrington. Over the course of the next 14 years, he and several partners worked with the Village of Barrington to redevelop the commercial and living area available in downtown Barrington. Cook Street Plaza was completed in 2006.

David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol (nee Raymond) McClintock; daughters, Holly McClintock Bowling and Wendy (Kevin) Hoffman; sons, Kennon (Jody) McClintock and Steve McClintock; grandchildren, Nathan Bowling, Natalie Bowling, Jason Hoffman, Danielle Hoffman and Molly McClintock and sister, Ruth Ravasz.
