Born: March 30, 1947
Died: February 18, 2018
Dennis Kent Crounse, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2018.
He was born March 30, 1947, in Chicago, the third son of Kenneth and Elsie (nee Mercier) Crounse. Shortly thereafter the family bought their first home in incorporated Leyden Township where Dennis spent his youth and teen years. Dennis was active in baseball there, helping to start the first Little League team in the area. While attending West Leyden High School, he met his wife Susan Skwatt.
They married and started a family and moved to Lake Killarney in the Cary area in 1972 just before the birth of their second son. Dennis was a loving father who actively supported his children in all of their activities. He served as a coach for Cary Youth Baseball, while Susan coached their soccer teams. Special father-son times were shared in the YMCA sponsored Indian Guides. Dennis and Susan moved to the Saddle Brook community in Grayslake in 2016.
In 1972 Dennis with his brother Ronald founded Technimold Tool Corporation, an injection molding company that operated in Cary for over 40 years, Dennis' sons following in the same trade. He had an outgoing personality and made friends wherever he went. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. Dennis didn't enjoy TV or sitting around but was always involved in problem solving and creative hands-on projects. He was constantly remodeling his own home and started the Superior Home Improvement general contracting firm to keep him busy in retirement. Dennis enjoyed using his I-Phone and searching for videos and information. Cats were a special delight to him, and his Maine Coon cat Hunter was a comfort during his illness.
Dennis is survived by Susan, his wife of nearly 50 years; his sons Dennis (Becky) Crounse of Crystal Lake, and Daniel (Heather) Crounse of Crystal Falls, Michigan; cherished grandchildren Andrew, Catherine, Daniel, and Joey; his brothers Ron (Sharon) Crounse and Donald (Pat) Crounse; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Friday February 23, 2018, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, from 4 pm until time of the funeral service at 8 pm. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cancer Center of America in Zion for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Prevent Cancer Foundation, 1600 Duke St., Suite 500, Alexandria,, VA 22314.
