Barrington, Illinois,The funeral service for Dennis Ray Ferguson, 67, of Barrington, will be held at 11am, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main Street (Lake Cook Road), Barrington. Reverend Jana Chwalisz will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 5-8pm, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake Cook Road), Barrington. Interment will be private. Born May 9, 1943, in Decatur, IL, he passed away on April 28, 2011, at home surrounded by his family. Dennis was a retired school teacher for District 211. He taught at Conant High School for 5 years and for 30 years at Hoffman Estates High School. He also coached football, basketball, and track. Dennis previously served in the U.S. army for 2 years. He was a member of the Barrington Lyons Club for 10 years and a former member of St. Paul U.C.C. He loved to read, play golf, and spend time with friends. He adored his family and loved spending time in Siesta Key, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen M. Ferguson, whom he married on September 25, 1966 in River Forest, IL; loving children Melinda M. (Kristopher) Burghard, Kevin P. (Karin Anderson) Ferguson, and Alison M. Ferguson; cherished grandchildren Benjamin Lee and Lucas Clark Burghard, Jack Henry Ferguson, Ethan A. and Lana A. Molzan; dear brother Robert L. (Angela) Ferguson of Hoffman Estates, IL; nephews Brian (Darinka) Ferguson, Patrick Ferguson, and niece Amy (Patrick) Clarke; great nephews Christian Ferguson, Brendan Ferguson, Dylan Ferguson and great niece Ashlyn; Keith and Shirley Cribbet; and Carol Sue Love. He was preceded in death by his parents Pershing J. and Mildred M. Ferguson. Dennis was a strong supporter of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer Research to which he expressed, "Thank you very much for your generosity and your kind thoughts and prayers. It gives me strength to know that there are some people who feel that those of us who suffer from rare cancers should not just be written off as acceptable losses."
