Dennis A. Kersting

Dennis Allen Kersting, 76, of Des Plaines, passed away on Sept 17, 2019 at Cedar Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care in Lake Zurich, his final days were spent with his family by his side. Born to Ted & Esther (Gilfoyle) Kersting in Park Ridge, he grew up attending Immaculate Conception Parish and Maine East high school class of 1961.

Dennis was a veteran of the US Navy and served over seas during the  Vietnam War on the USS Rigel. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's of Education at Arkansas State University while participating on the collegiate gymnastics and cheerleading squad. He always made physical fitness a true part of his life within his hobbies and many activities.

His enthusiasm for cars, boating, camping, traveling, softball, were always enjoyed with family and friends. He had a career of Heating & Air Conditioning and was founder and owner/operator of Rainbow Engineering and did much for others and the community. He was an active member of American Legion Post 525 and enjoyed participation of all events to share his devotion amongst fellow comrades of all services.

He was a dedicated father who is survived by his children, Lauren Kersting of Wauconda, IL and Darren (Kattie) Kersting of Memphis, TN; grandchildren Declan, Kensley & Alayna Kersting. His siblings Jean (Richard) Breen, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Bill (Bonnie) Kersting, Bremerton, WA; Jim (Pam) Kersting, Brooklyn Park, MN; Jonn Kersting (Ronnie Pancoast) Hampshire, IL and many nieces, nephews, generations of cousins and former spouse Kathleen Kersting (Northway). He was preceded in death by his brothers Ted & Tom Kersting.

Dennis will be buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL with military honors on Oct 25, 2019 at 2pm. His memorial and celebration of life will be on Oct 26, 2019 at American Legion Post 1205,  203 N Edgewood Ave, Wood Dale, IL from 1pm-5pm.
