Donald Ernst Larsen, 84, of Barrington Hills, IL, was born on October 22, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Thorleif and Martha (nee Dittman) Larsen and passed away peacefully on May 3, 2017 at the JourneyCare hospice in Barrington, IL after a courageous battle with cancer.
Don was the loving husband of Pamela (nee Hooper); cherished father of Mark “Leif” (Diane) Larsen, Siri (Evan) Walsh and Geri Emery; grandfather of Jessica Larsen, Mark Larsen and John Larsen; great-grandfather to Mason Larsen; dear brother to Barbara Prignano, Patricia Baird and Suzi (Larry) Lenhart; uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Don was the owner of Thorleif Larsen & Son from 1954 to 1998, and grew the business to become one of the largest masonry construction companies in the United States with offices in Itasca, IL, Ft. Wayne, IN and Euless, TX. He held numerous leadership positions in the masonry industry, both nationally and locally, including President of the Mason Contractors Association of Greater Chicago and President of the Mason Contractors Association of America. He was also the chairman of the management negotiating committee for more than 35 years negotiating labor contracts with the Chicagoland bricklayers union. He was a member of Barrington Hills Country Club and a former member of Medinah Country Club.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Rd, Barrington, IL 60010 from 9:30 am until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service a luncheon will be held at Barrington Hills Country Club, 300 W. County Line Rd., Barrington IL 60010.
