Donald Wortmann, M.D.

The memorial visitation for Donald H. Wortmann, M.D., 88, of Barrington and formerly Rockford will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W Main St (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010 from 2-5pm.
There will also be a memorial visitation Tuesday, November 4, 2014 held at Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, 304 N 5th St., Rockford, IL 61107 from 2-4pm.
Born July 15, 1926 in George, Iowa to Elmer and Sally Wortmann, Donald passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014.
He was a graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School and practiced pediatrics for 47 years in Rockford, Illinois. He served as Medical Director of Rockford Memorial Hospital, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Swedish-American Hospital, and Associate Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Donald served during WWII in the United States Navy and was also an active member of Rotary International. He and his wife, Jeanine, spent a year in Malaysia where Don helped to establish the University of Kuching Medical School.
Don and Jeanine had a lifelong passion for agriculture and land conservation. They enjoyed spending time on their working farm outside of Pecatonica, Illinois.
Don was a loving father to Scott, Sara (Dave), and Craig (Jill); devoted Grampy to Justin, Lindsay, Ally, Hunter, Lauren, and Van.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Jeanine, he was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Stan.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Natural Land Institute, 320 South Third Street, Rockford, IL 61104.
