Davenport Lake Zurich

“As long as we have memories, yesterday remains. As long as we have hope, tomorrow waits. As long as we have love, today is beautiful.”

Doris Genevieve Weghorn (nee Hjerpe), 94 of Lombard, IL and formerly of Elmwood Park, IL was born on July 15, 1926 in Chicago, IL and passed away on December 1, 2020 in Lake Zurich, IL.

Doris retired from Carson Pirie Scott & Co. She was a salesperson for over 20 years and her customers loved working with her. She received many service awards. On September 7, 1946, Doris married Wayne W. Weghorn, her high school sweetheart, after he served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in WWII. She was a loving wife and mother, and dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed music, sewing, knitting, cooking, baking, dancing, playing pinochle and working crossword puzzles. She loved feeding her squirrels peanuts by hand and tried to never miss an episode of Wheel of Fortune and Dancing with the Stars. She knitted sweaters and hats to keep the family warm while ice skating. Her yard was one of the prettiest on the block. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage as well.

Doris is survived by her children, Kim Harmon of Round Lake Beach, IL, and Pamela Braswell of Buncombe, IL; sister, Karen (the late Stan) Levander of Grayslake, IL; brother, Larry (Karen) Josefson of Lake Zurich, IL; grandson-in-law, Joseph Manarik; nieces, Kathy Josefson, Sharon (Janice) Josefson and Sandy Seyller; and cousin, Ron Malm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne W. Weghorn; granddaughter, Laura Anne Manarik; parents, Henrik Hjerpe and Martha (Olof) Sedwall (nee Malm, Hjerpe and Josefson); step-dad, Thorsten Josefson; uncle, Wally (Stella) Malm; sister-in-law, June (Fred) Hlady; and long-time companion, Edward Roll.

Doris will be interred privately into the family niche at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL.
