Dorothy Ackmann
August 9, 1924 — March 10, 2016
Dorothy C. Ackmann (nee Collier) 91, of Barrington, IL passed away peacefully on March 10, 2016, at her home in The Garlands.
She was born August 9, 1924 in East St. Louis to the late Ruby (Rives) and late Raymond Collier. She grew up in Picayune, MS, attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL, graduating in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences. At U of I she met the love of her life, Lowell, and shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. She truly loved spending time with friends and family, entertaining, traveling, and winters in Phoenix with Lowell. She was such a special person, full of life and will be sorely missed.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell, brother Robert Collier and sister Florence Page.
She was the loving mother of: Bob Ackmann (Jan) of Scottsdale, AZ, Lee Ackmann (Jakki Brooks) of Carefree, AZ, and Barbara Peterson of Palatine, IL; Caring grandmother of: Tom (Michelle), Scott, Kelly, Erik, Brad and Noah.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Inverness Golf Club, 102 North Roselle Road, Inverness, IL, Friday, March 25th from 11:30am - 1:30pm.
