A graveside service for Dorothy E. Arndt, nee Blain,85, of Barrington Hills, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 6, at Ridgewood Cemetery, 9900 Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, 60016.  Born May 31,1926, in Des Plaines, she passed away peacefully October 3, 2011 at her home. 

She was a member of Citizens for Conservation and volunteered as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.  She was very artistic and an avid antique doll collector and designer, constructing ceramic dolls.  She also enjoyed traveling with her friends and gardening.  She was a lover of nature and animals and enjoyed spending summers in Door County.

Survivors include her children, Peggy (Geoffrey) Matson of Harvard, Jeannie (Richard) Hall of North East, Maryland, and Laura (Donald Miner) Arndt of Barrington Hills; 5 grandchildren, Geoffrey Jr., and Gregory Matson, William Arndt, Brian and Carrie Thomas; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Arndt, Jr., a daughter, Christine Thomas, her parents, John and Irma Blain, a brother, and two sisters.
