The funeral service for Dorothy L. Doumakes (nee McIntosh), 83, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
There will also be a visitation Friday, April 11, from 5-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Born November 8, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, she passed away from a brief fight with leukemia on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in her home.
Mrs. Doumakes grew up in the San Fernando Valley in California and received her nursing degree from the Los Angeles County/USC School of Nursing. On April 27, 1952, she married the late Arthur A. Doumakes in Winnetka, California, and remained faithful to him until her death.
After being widowed in 1978, she took over her husband’s business, Bingaman-Precision Metal Spinning Corporation, and led its expansion. She never officially retired, retaining her presidency and board seat. Her passions were her family, home, reading, and her dog. She enjoyed art, reading, and travel. In her later years, she was devoted to and took care of her mother, Beryl.
Survivors include her sons, Don (Jan) Doumakes of Woodbine, Iowa and John (Catherine) Doumakes of Buda, Texas; grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Saxton, Kristyna (Nathan) Brewer and Andrew Doumakes; and Jessica (Tony) Kapustka, Kara (Gervais) Laird, Shona Moeller, and Breana (Steve Pettinger) Moeller; great-grandchildren, Lauryn and Jacob Saxton, Brody Brewer, Ethan and Oliver Kapustka, and Morgan and Tessa Laird; brothers, Ronald K. (Judy) McIntosh of Arnold, California, and Michael B. (Mona) McIntosh of Evergreen, Colorado; sister-in-law, Frances Scofield; brother-in-law, Robert Doumakes; extended family, Walter and Teresa Moeller; many nieces and nephews; best friend and business partner, Alan Mortenson; and her beloved dog, RTS (Return to Sender).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. Doumakes; daughter, Mary Frances (Kevin) Moeller (the late parents of Jessica Kapustka); parents, Lester and Beryl (nee McOsker) McIntosh.; brother-in-law, Dr.Stanley Scofield; and sister-in-law, Edna Doumakes.
