Dorothy Mead

Dorothy Mae Mead, 76, of Woodstock died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Woodstock.

She was born April 10, 1938 to Owen Thomas and Mary Jane Finnegan in Chicago.

Dorothy loved living in the country. Over the years she had many animals, including horses, goats, cats and dogs. She loved bird watching, often calling herself an amateur ornithologist. Dorothy enjoyed being a care-giver for many family members in addition to being a hospice volunteer in the Fox Valley area. She also co-founded the Young at Hearts, (YAH’S) at Blessed Sacrament Church in North Aurora. Dorothy had become a familiar face to the Centegra Health community for a number of years and would have wanted to thank the doctors and staff for their outstanding care and service. It was also her wonderful sense of humor and her strong faith in God which brought her through many obstacles in life. She was an inspiration to us all.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Larkin Mead; daughter, Laura (Mike) Knauf; grandchildren, Kathryn and Matthew Knauf; sister-in-law, Marcia (Larry) Thomas; step-brother, Thomas Foyer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Owen A. Finnegan, infants, Joseph and John Finnegan; parents; and step mother, Frances Foyer Finnegan.

Visitation will be held from 4-8p.m. Monday, May 12 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.

A second visitation will begin at 10am on Tuesday, May 13 at the funeral home with transfer prayers at 10:30am, going in procession to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake for an 11am Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be held privately at Spring Lake Cemetery, Aurora.
