Dorothy Pfeiffer

Barrington, Illinois,Dorothy Wolsey Pfeiffer moved peacefully on to the next phase of her life on November 18, 2010. Although a long time resident of Barrington, Illinois, Dorothy was born in Winnetka, Illinois on June 23, 1925. She graduated from New Trier High School and went on to attend National College of Education in Chicago. Before starting her career as a kindergarten teacher, Dorothy became a recreational director with USAREUR Special Services to Rhine Military Post in Germany and helped entertain soldiers with skits, musical acts, dances, doughnuts, coffee and conversation. She married Fred Pfeiffer in 1956 and they were a loving couple until his passing in 1978. After retiring from Schaumburg School District 54 with close to forty years of teaching (mostly at Hanover Highlands), she volunteered as a Cook County court watcher. She spent thirty years of attendance at Willow Creek Community Church where she volunteered as an usher. Dorothy was also an active golfer, bowler and poker player. From the many stories that have been told to her family, Dorothy really made a difference in the lives she touched and she will truly be missed. Survivors include her three children David (Betsy) and Dan (Jane) of Barrington, Illinois and Gretchen from Port Washington, Wisconsin. Also her six grandchildren Jeff, Eric, Scott, Amy, Molly and Mitchell, along with her sister Mary (Maurice) Rattray and sister-in-law Laura Mae Grace. Further survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, especially life-long co-horts Jim and Jackie Sprinkle. A remembrance service will be held Monday, November 29th at 5 p.m. with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. in the Chapel at Willow Creek Church, 67 E. Algonquin Road, South Barrington, IL 60010.
