Dorothy Robertson

The funeral service for Dorothy Anna Robertson (nee Maurer),96, of Barrington will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 E. Algonquin Rd., Barrington Hills, IL , where she will lie in state from 10 A.M. until the time of service. A reception will follow the service at the church. Dr. James M. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at 2 P.M. in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary. 

Visitation will be 4-8 P.M., Wednesday, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd), Barrington.

Born November 28, 1914 in Dubuque, Iowa, she passed away peacefully October 9,2011, at her home.

In the 1930s, Dorothy began her career as a legal secretary for a patent attorney in Chicago. In 1960, she became an executive and legal secretary for Quaker Oats at the research lab in Barrington and later at the corporate office in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.  She was a member of the Barrington United Methodist Church, where in her younger years she taught Sunday School. Dorothy was a Girl Scout and later became a Scout Leader.  Dorothy was a member of Windy Brushes and enjoyed painting, reading, word puzzles and traveling.

Survivors include daughters, Linda E. and Beth J. Robertson of Barrington. 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Robertson; parents, Albert Joseph and Bessie Ellen (nee Smith) Maurer; and a sister, Helen Irene Maurer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 E. Algonquin Rd., Barrington Hills, IL  60010.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd), Barrington.

Visitation and Service: 10 a.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011 until the service at 11 a.m. at the Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 E. Algonquin Rd., Barrington Hills.  There will be a reception at the church following the service.

Burial: 2 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
