South Barrington, Illinois,Dye "Don" Miller of South Barrington. The exceptional life of Don Miller, 81, will be celebrated starting with a visitation at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St., Barrington, on Thursday, June 24 from 4-9 p.m. The celebration of his life will continue at a funeral service at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E. Main St., Barrington, on Friday, June 25, beginning with visitation in the Gathering Place at 9:30 and a service at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. Born August 14, 1928 in Shreveport, LA, he passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the comfort of his home, after a 10-year battle with Mesothelioma. Don was an engineer, inventor and a self-made man, holding numerous engineering patents in several industries. He even built the first-production fiberglass catamaran boat. Don was a very active man who loved motorcycling, boating, snowmobiling, golfing and traveling with his family, which he enthusiastically enjoyed until his illness prevented him from doing so. Don served in the Army and Air Force as an engineer working on aircraft engines. After proudly serving his country, Don was honorably discharged from the Army on December 27, 1946 and honorably discharged from the Air Force on November 27, 1953. During his life, he was deeply committed to and involved in his community as a South Barrington Village Trustee, Planning Commissioner, and Road Commissioner. He was also a founding member and past President of the South Barrington Lakes Homeowner?s Association. He served, in various capacities, on the Association until his death. He is survived by and was the beloved husband of Carole (nee Bontecue) for 45 years ; loving father of Sean (Maria) Miller of Cary; Juliette (Mark) Steffe of Ramsey, NJ; cherished and adored grandfather of Jack, Sammy and Alexandra Steffe and Sofia and Ashley Miller; and dear brother to Thomas Miller and David Chambers. He was preceded in death by his parents Dye O. Miller, Sr. and Lorena Miller Chambers (nee Price), and brother Alan Miller.
