Edmund "Ed" R. Fowler

March 7, 1928 — December 6, 2017

Edmund R. Fowler, an Army veteran, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2017 at the age of 89 in Barrington, IL. He was born on March 7, 1928 in Rockford, IL to Roy and Vera Fowler.

Ed attended Beloit College where he met his future wife Janet Boggs.  After his military service, he earned his M.B.A from Northwestern University.  He retired in 1989 from Square D Company after 29 years of service.

As a member of the Park Ridge United Methodist Church since 1960, Ed was devoted to supporting his community and other charitable organizations. Especially dear to his heart was the Church’s holiday program for needy families, where he delivered turkeys to the Chicago south side’s Marcy-Newberry Association for over 20 years.

Ed and Janet were married on June 12, 1949 in Goshen, Indiana. This year they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

His main focus was his love and generosity to family and friends. He had fond memories of his younger years spending summers at the family cottage at Antigo Island on Pelican Lake, Wisconsin. As his kids grew up, many summer days were spent digging worms for fishing at “the Lake”. He also enjoyed camping with the family in Colorado and New England and taking family vacations to Mexico, St. Petersburg Beach, Banff, and the Baltic Sea. In retirement, Ed and Janet spent much of their time wintering in Arizona.

In addition to his wife Janet, Ed is survived by daughters Debra (Irv) Dvorak of Buffalo Grove, IL and Pamela (Mark) Neuhart of Knoxville, TN, and son David (Kim) Fowler of Madison, WI. He was a cherished grandfather to Heather (Cory) Wooden, Kelly (Andrew) Sutliff, Patrick Fowler, Nathan Cash, Anna Fowler, and Daniel (Erin) Cash, and was a great grandfather to Dylan, Bennett, Ardyn, and Radek.  He is also survived by sister Gayle Covey of Bradenton, Florida.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donn Fowler.

A private graveside service and burial will be held on December 9, 2017 at a family plot in Violett Cemetery, Goshen, IN.
