Edward Kain

Edward James Kain, 91, of Huntley, formerly of Crystal Lake, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at his home.

He was born October 2, 1923, in Oak Park to the late Edward and Ella (nee Quinn) Kain. Mr. Kain married the late Marjorie Morris on May 4, 1946, in Coral Gables, FL.

Mr. Kain lived in Crystal Lake for many years prior to moving to Sun City, Huntley. He was an Army combat veteran who served in the Philippines and Okinawa during WWII, and a member of the Woodstock VFW Post #5040, and Crystal Lake American Legion.

He was an attorney who worked in credit management at Oak Industries, Crystal Lake. Very active in the Crystal Lake community, he was past president of the Crystal Lake Library board and the first president of the Crystal Lake Jaycees. Mr. Kain enjoyed golf and was a Life Master duplicate-bridge player. He was an avid Chicago sports team fan.

Survivors include his children, Edward (Emilie) Kain of La Verne, CA, Charles (Gayla) Kain of West Frankfort, Barbara Deuchler of Crystal Lake, Mary Knoll of Sugar Grove, and Karen (Ibro) Ovcina of St. John, USVI; grandchildren, Conor (Hannah) and Edward Kain, John (Lisa Floyd) Deuchler, Mason (Connie) Wallick, Missy Kain, John Ovcina, Renee (Matt) Hawkins, Jaffer and Zac Ovcina, Ashley Davis and Zane Rawls, Angela (John) Bishop, Robert (Rachel) Miklos; and great-grandchildren, Caylin and Sophie Wallick, Layla Deuchler, Vivian Kain, and Henry Hawkins.

In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he was preceded in death by his son, John Kain; daughter-in-law, Catherine Kain; and by his sister, Sr. Mary of God, O.P.

The memorial visitation will be Friday, December 19, from 4 p.m. until the time of military honors and eulogies at 7 p.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Inurnment will be private in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Kain’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
