Edward A. Sersen, 91, lifelong resident of Cary, was born June 25, 1927 in Cary to Edward and Olga Sersen. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 20, 2018 in Wauconda.
After graduating from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1945, he joined the Navy and served in and around China on a LSM until June of 1946. After returning home, he entered into a sheet metal workers apprenticeship, becoming a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 73 and has been a proud union member for 69 years. He was employed at the Robert Irsay Co. in Skokie for 30 years. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop and traveling, especially taking the family on many road trips around the country. In August of 1953, he married his wife, Rita of 65 years.
Surviving him are his wife, Rita; his children, Larry (Marci) Sersen, Sandra (Bob) Horejsi, Jerome Sersen and James Sersen; five grandchildren, Tiffany Sersen, Jeanette (Andy) Skalski, Justin Johnson, Amy Johnson, and Melanie Johnson; four great grandchildren, Madilynn Marrero, Claire Marrero, Oliver Skalski, and Everett Skalski. Those preceding him were his parents; and his brother, William Sersen.
Memorial visitation will be from 4pm until time of memorial service at 7pm, Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
