Elizabeth J. “Betty” Hershberger, 86, formerly of Ashland, KY, died Friday, May 23, 2014 at Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, IL .
She was born November 3, 1927 in St. George, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Kenneth Young Miller and Hazel Arcurtis Shoemaker.
Betty was very active in her community, belonging to numerous organizations including Poage Chapter DAR, Past Regent, member of First Presbyterian Church as a choir member; Eastern Star Parsons Chapter; Three Arts, Past President; Board of Directors, Ashland YMCA; Director at YWCA, Ashland Roadrunners; Red Hatters; Toastmaster as the first woman in the Ashland Club; Regional Director Altrusa Club, and Front Porch Society. Betty attended St. George Academy and was a graduate of Parsons High School, class of 1946.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Ann (Patrick) Hershberger Nestor of Cox’s Mills, W.Va., two sons, John (Jan) Hershberger of Lake Forest, IL, and James (Debbie) Hershberger of Cary, IL; five grandchildren, Andrea (Michael) Nestor Falk, Paul (Liza) Nestor, Kyle Hershberger and Colin Hershberger of Cary, IL; and Katie Hershberger of Lake Forest; three great grandchildren, Wesley and Josh Nestor and Connor Falk and brothers, Phillip and James Miller.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Hershberger in 2002.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Parson Cemetery, Parsons, West Virginia.
A Celebration of Life service will be held a 2 p.m., Sunday, August 10 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Winchester Ave, Ashland KY with Rev. Ann Pitman officiating.
