Elizabeth “Betty” Knauf, born October 25, 1932 passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 10th, surrounded by her loving family in Crystal Lake, IL, at the age of 86. Betty graduated from Leyden High School before attending Northwestern University.
Betty was a well-known figure in the McHenry County Restaurant Association for her many years working in local eateries and as the long-time owner of the Old Mill Inn in Wonder Lake. Betty always made the guests feel welcome with warm hospitality and a delicious meal.
As an active member of the St. Thomas Parish in Crystal Lake, Betty volunteered for many different activities and was always willing to volunteer at Little Christopher’s resale shop. She was also an avid golfer and participated in many leagues in the area. Throughout her life, faith, family and friends were her driving force always putting others before herself.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Len Knauf, sons Mike (Laura), Jim (Colleen) and Bob (Carol) and daughters Mary and Judy (Jesse) Garcia; grandchildren Nicole (Martin) Boswell, Daniel (Lindsay) Graff, Elyse Johnson, Anna Keck, Karina (Chris) Wallace, Katie Garcia, Jesse (Brooke) Garcia, Kelly Knauf, Emma Knauf; Kathryn Knauf and Matthew Knauf; great-grandchildren Adalyn, Colton, Carter and Ransom. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Healey; her parents Edward and Clara Healey; and her granddaughter Haley Johnson.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 13 from 4-7 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake. Visiting will continue the following day, Wednesday, November 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with prayers held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Procession will follow to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, for the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
