Elizabeth Major

November 5, 1926 — February 4, 2014

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Major (nee Westcott), age 87, passed away from complications of dementia on February 4, 2014 at the Garlands of Barrington.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Frank A. Major; her three daughters, Robin Lundstrum (the late Jack), Suzanne Barber (Mike), and Nancy Major (Jim Williams); five grandchildren Elizabeth Lundstrum, Laura Nelli (Cameron High), Sarah Barber, Wesley Barber (Bianca), and Emily Barber; and her brother Jim Westcott.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Walter “Stan” Westcott and Velma (nee Morse) Westcott; her brothers Stanley “Bud” Westcott (Dolly), Dr. Jack (Irena); and her sister Linda Monaghan (the late Barry).

Betty was born November 5, 1926 in Highland Park, MI, but moved to Kenmore, NY at an early age. Betty graduated from Kenmore Senior High School in 1943. She attended Indiana University and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. As a young woman, Betty did some modeling in Buffalo after her marriage. She always enjoyed her flower garden and was a talented painter in both oil and watercolors. In later life, she was an interior decorator. Her real joy, however, was raising her three daughters and then loving and enjoying her five grandchildren.

The family has a special “thank you” for her two loving caregivers, Maria Rodriguez and Milagros Agustin. The family is also grateful for the care from Patricia Ward, Judy Rooney, Cindy Bicknase, Diane Klick, and Ron Zabel from JourneyCare, a world class hospice.

Services were private. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m., April 19, 2014 at the Garlands in Barrington.

The family would be grateful for contributions made in Betty’s memory to JourneyCare, 405 Lake Zurich Rd, Barrington, IL 60010, www.journeycare.org.
