Elizabeth “Betty” Joan Marinis

Born June 9, 1930 in Chicago, the daughter of Arthur L. and Marie (nee Murley) King, Betty passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loving family and friends on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the age of 86.

Betty was a 1951 graduate of St. Anne’s Nursing School where she met her husband, William. They were married May 17, 1952 in Des Plaines. Betty had a diverse nursing career, most proud of her work as an Obstetrics Nurse. She was also an early member of the Crystal Lake Volunteer Ambulance Service. As a life-long learner, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in 1985 from the University of St. Francis. Betty retired from nursing in 1987 to become a full-time grandmother. With a big heart, Betty was loved by all who knew her and had great compassion for those in need. Lastly, Betty was fiercely proud of her Irish heritage.

Betty is survived by her children, William (Deborah) Marinis of Lake Placid NY, Mary Beth (Walter) Thomas of Chicago, James (Megan) Marinis of Lake Bluff, IL, and Thomas (Stephanie) Marinis of Park Ridge, IL; her 13 grandchildren, Jared (Kayla) Marshall, Ryan Marshall, Elizabeth Marinis, Kathryn (Tyler) Haws, Sarah Thomas, Walter Thomas, William J. Marinis, Isabel Marinis, William G. Marinis, Grace Marinis, Stephen Marinis, James Marinis, Mary Marinis; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Haws.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Marinis; her sister, Noreen Adler; and her numerous canine Boxer companions.

The visitation will be held Friday, January 20, from 4-9 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte 176) Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Visiting will continue the following day, Saturday, January 21, at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until prayers at 9:30 a.m. followed by procession to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake for Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marian Central Catholic High School, 1001 McHenry Ave, Woodstock, IL 60098.
