Elmer Scherkenbach

Elmer W. Scherkenbach, 89, of Mundelein, formerly of Palm Harbor, Florida passed away peacefully February 11, 2013 at his home.
He was born April 7, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Arthur and Marie Scherkenbach. On July 28, 1945 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie Rose Bleiler. They were married for 63 years until Marjorie's passing in 2008.
Elmer was a WWII B-17 pilot and a decorated war veteran. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 34 years until retiring and moving to Florida.
Elmer is survived by his children, Karen (John) O'Brien, Cheryl (Rob) McGrath, Lee (Judy) Scherkenbach, Jed (Mary) Scherkenbach, Kurt (Audrey) Scherkenbach, Craig Scherkenbach, Jeff (Kim) Scherkenbach, and Michelle Scherkenbach; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Marjorie; brother, Ralph; and son, Chris.
A memorial Mass for Elmer will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave (Rt 176) Crystal Lake, Friday, February 15 at 10:30 a.m.
