ESTHER M. OCAMPO, 99, of Cary, IL, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024 at her home in Cary, IL.
Esther was born on February 12, 1925 in the Philippines, to Nicolas Mallari and Eustaquia Quitalig. She graduated at the University of Santo Tomas, Bachelor’s degree in Education and married to Pablo G. Ocampo in 1955.
Esther taught 2nd grade Elementary School and migrated in the U.S. in 1989 after her husband passed away and joined her daughter and family. She lived in Cary, IL for 34 years.
Esther loves cooking and is a passionate dancer from the oldies; tango chacha etc. Anyone who knew Esther knew that she was loving, Godly and generous. Her family and extended family meant more to her than anything else in the world that is why she is truly loved. Once asked by her priest what her secret for her long life, she said “loving God and neighbor and always being happy no matter what”.
Esther was predeceased by her husband, Pablo Ocampo, sons, Edsel and Adrian Ocampo, her parents, all her brothers and sisters, and son-in-law Robert Hammerschmidt and; is survived by her daughter; Josephine Hammerschmidt, grandsons Stephen Hammerschmidt (Shane Hammerschmidt) and grandchildren: Leon and Ariel Hammerschmidt; Paul Ocampo (Samantha Terry) and grandchildren Braedon, Sean, Luke and Audree Ocampo; Brian Ocampo ( Karmela Ocampo) and grandchildren Amelia, Charles and Aria Ocampo and oldest niece Soledad Dizon.
We will surely miss Esther, and we will abide with all her wishes and will continue her legacy of love, prayerfulness and always being happy.
