Services for Esther Marie Wendt, 94, of Lombard, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 25, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington, where there will be visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Born June 13, 1916, she passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois Pepper Family Hospice Home, Barrington. Esther was a very active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Barrington and also a member of the Women's Fellowship. She volunteered at Barrington Catch Penny for many years and was a member of the Good Shepherd Women's Auxiliary. Esther enjoyed sewing and quilting. In addition to the heirlooms she made her family members, she shared a special fondness for babies and made blankets for premature infants born in Loyola Hospital and crib size blankets for Care Net Pregnancies in Wood Dale. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Gerald) Ahlgrim of Lombard; son, Gary (Lynn) Wendt of Northbrook; grandchildren, David (Shari) Ahlgrim of Michigan, Daniel (Denise) Ahlgrim of New York, Andrew Wendt of Chicago and Stephanie Wendt of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Dea, Dori and Dylan Ahlgrim; brother, Reuben (June) Reuter: sister-in-law, Margaret Reuter; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; parents, Fred and Catherine (nee Koch) Reuter; step-mother, Clara; sisters, Florence Neighbors and Mildred Jaquet; and brother, Elmer Reuter.
