Eugene Mark Baseggio

Eugene Mark Baseggio, age 70, of Crystal Lake and formerly of Woodstock, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.

Born September 25th, 1947 in Gary, Indiana to Gino and Ann (Valsi) Baseggio, Gene grew up in Crystal Lake.  He attended St. Thomas the Apostle before graduating from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1965.  After graduation, he enlisted in the United Stated Navy and was honorably discharged in September 1968.  He then began his career with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department.

Gene married his wife, Patricia (Smith), on May 5th, 1973 at St. Thomas the Apostle in Crystal Lake.  They resided in Woodstock for over 40 years where they raised their three sons.

An avid fan of music, carpentry, cooking and bumming around local garage sales, Gene never met a challenge that scared him away. From fixing cars to building and remodeling houses, he couldn’t wait to roll up his sleeves and get to work.  Curiosity was a driving factor that kept him going while helping others was something he genuinely enjoyed.

He is survived in death by his wife of 44 years; three sons, Mark,  Brent (Kellie) and Todd (Jordanne); six grandchildren, Alena, Bradley, Blake, Brice, Breckyn and Nolan; and brother, Tom.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Terri.

A memorial visitation will be Thursday, March 15, from 5 pm until 8 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake.   Mass will be Friday, March 16, at 11 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church,  451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, with prayers starting at the funeral home at 10:30 am.
