Eugene Zahn

Gene Zahn, 82, Marengo, passed away June 6, 2014. He was born April 18, 1932, the first-born to Eugene and Inez Zahn. His brother Richard came nine years later.

Gene attended Taft High School and went into the Navy during the Korean War. His pride and glory was to tell the story that he danced with Elizabeth Taylor on her honeymoon with Nick Hilton.

Gene worked at Bieze Catering and then spent 25 years working for the Colombus, Cabrini, and Cuneo Hospitals.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, bridge, and lots of card games.
His love for golf led him to work at White Pines Golf Course and the Crystal Woods Golf Course in his retirement.

Gene is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Debbie (Bill) Johnston, Cindy, and Sandy; step-children, Michael (Sherri) Mark, Patricia (Mark) Solheim, Kenneth (Karen)Mark, Cynthia (Dan) Bolnius, and Phillip (Linda) Mark; his brother, Richard (Kathy) Zahn; step-sisters, Patricia (Dan)Brandt, Peggy Manson; 21 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He fought a long battle. May he rest in peace.

The visitation will be Friday, June 13th, from 3-9pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, June 14th, at 10:30am, at Sacred Heart Parish, 323 N Taylor St, Marengo. Burial will be at Maryhill Cemetery.
