Evelyn “Evie” Faassen
Born November 5, 1925 in Zion, IL, passed away peacefully at her home in Barrington March 21, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Evie was born and raised in Zion and attended Monmouth College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She worked at Abbott Laboratories until she began raising her family.
Evie married her high school sweetheart, John Faassen, after World War II and lived in the first home they built in Zion. They were married for 66 years and raised four children together.
She did an excellent job of raising her children and became very involved volunteering in the Lake Bluff schools, Lake Forest Hospital, Infant Welfare Society of Chicago, Hospice, Lake Bluff Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, and other charities in the area.
After John retired they moved to Oro Valley, AZ, enjoying traveling, golfing, and many new friends. They made several trips to Europe and Great Britain. They also traveled to Switzerland annually after their daughter Anne and her family relocated there.
After fifteen years in Arizona they moved to St. Charles, IL and a few years later to The Garlands in Barrington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Pat (Barry) Butterfield, Marty (Syd) Faassen, David (Lina) Faassen, and Anne (Rob) Johnson; grandchildren, Michael, Lisa, Evan, Graham, Amy, Brenden, and Alex; great grandchildren, Carter and Emalyn; and brother Clifton Capp.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mabel Capp, three brothers and two sisters.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
