Evelyn Ruth (Moe) Bergbom

Evelyn Ruth Bergbom (nee Moe), 97, of Barrington passed away peacefully on September 21, 2018. She was born in Chicago on January 15, 1921 to Reverend Lewis and Hilda Moe.

On April 12, 1947, she married Stanley Bergbom. They raised their four children in Barrington.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by her children, Robert (Melinda) Bergbom, John (Janice) Bergbom, Ruth (Clisby, Jr.) Jarrard and Doris (Bill) Knapik; grandchildren, Ian (Angie) Fairweather, Colin (Jessica) Fairweather, Nathan (Casey) Bergbom, Kelly (Jason) Nohren, Clisby III (Jessica) Jarrard, Brad (Sarah) Jarrard, Will (Nicole) Knapik, Rob (Taylor) Knapik, and Charlie (Kelly) Knapik; great grandchildren, Mason, Kyra, Ben, Estella, Austen, Emilie, Anthony, Nick, Drew, Elyse, Jacob, Edward, Thomas, Brooke, Hattie, Lane, Sia, Clisby IV, Hayden, Ari, Evelyn, and Noelle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley G. Bergbom and five siblings.

Evelyn received her BS from Chicago Teachers College then went on to get her Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Loyola University. She taught math at Lakeview High School in Chicago before becoming a full time homemaker. After her kids were all in school, Evelyn worked at Bob and Betty Shop in Barrington for many years. She volunteered at Catchpenny Thrift Shop in Barrington and was a past president of Barrington Junior Women’s Club. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hat Society. Evelyn sang in a church choir for 87 years and was an original member of the Bell Choir at Lutheran Church of the Atonement ringing bells for 20 years. She loved playing Scrabble and was an avid reader.

A memorial service for Evelyn will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington.
