Father Marx Jones

Father Marx A. Jones, 88, of Crystal Lake, entered into eternal life on December 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Fountains of Crystal Lake.

He was born on July 29, 1926 to Nathan and Blanche Jones in Abilene, Kansas.
Marx left high school to serve his country with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He returned home to attend the University of Northern Colorado and then Philadelphia Divinity School. He was a priest for several parishes in Kansas before settling in Illinois and serving for the congregations of St. Mary’s Crystal Lake, St. Anskar’s Rockford, St. Christopher’s Princeton, and the LaSalle County Episcopal Ministries. He coached his sons’ baseball teams and enjoyed golfing, story telling and a good joke. Shortly before his death, he was able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington DC.

Father Marx is survived by his loving children, Michael (Patricia) Jones, N. Douglas (Colleen) Jones, Christopher Jones, and Matthew (Jane) Jones; cherished grandchildren, Alec, Briley, Katie, Bryan, Nicole, and Sam; one niece and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Barbara (nee Prosise) Jones; brothers Nathan Jones, Scott Jones, and Clark Jones; his parents; and his step-mother, Marie Jones.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the Gentiva Hospice staff, the staff of The Fountains, and many other friends for all their support and assistance through the years.

Memorial Service will be held at 1p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 210 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
Burial will be held privately in the spring at church.
