Barrington, Illinois,The funeral service for Frances Irene Edwards, nee Shields, 89, of Barrington, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington, 60010 where visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Born December 14, 1921 in Alton, IL to Emmer and Opal (nee Summer) Shields, she passed away in Barrington on January 4, 2011. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights. Frances served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a surgical technician. She married Robert Eugene Edwards on March 20 1948 in Evanston, IL. An avid antique collector and dealer, she was one of the founding members of the Salt Creek chapter of Questers, and served as the first president of the Illinois Questers.. She owned Edwards Antiques in Algonquin, IL for many years. She also loved travelling, reading, needlework, sewing, and quilting. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Richard) Vinton of Gallatin Gateway, Montana, her son Robert Edwards of Phoenix, Arizona, and foreign exchange student "daughter" Althea (Phil) Chamberlain of Pretoria, South Africa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Edwards (6-9-21 to 7-9-85), her mother Opal Shields Nystrom, father Emmer Shields, and brothers Jimmy, Leo, Emmer and Tom.
