Frank J. Morgan, an American businessman and philanthropist who served as President of The Quaker Oats Company, died peacefully on October 15, 2022, in Barrington, IL surrounded by family. He was 97. Frank J. Morgan was born September 13, 1925 in New Haven, CT. He moved to Bridgeport, CT at an early age and graduated from Harding High School in 1943.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Piedmont, Store Keeper 3 rd Class and subsequently served in the V-12 Officer Program at Yale University. He graduated Yale in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Business Administration and completed the Program for Management Development (PMD) from the Harvard University Business School in 1966.

Early in his career, Frank was employed in various manufacturing companies, including Chance Vought (division of United Technologies) where he helped lead the project team for the F7U Cutlass Fighter. The F7U was a cutting edge plane developed for the U.S. Navy that had swept back wings with tail fins and the first American fighter designed from the outset with an afterburner. He later worked at the New Departure division of GM, The Remington Arms Company (subsidiary of DuPont) and the Arma division of American Bosch Arma, where he was involved in the design and installation of the first all-inertial guidance system on the Atlas E (SM- 65) ICBM missile.

In 1964, Frank accepted a position as corporate manager of industrial engineering at the Quaker Oats Company (now a division of Pepsico) and over a 26 year career held a number of positions including Plant Superintendent (Cedar Rapids, IA), President of Quaker Canada (1972-1975), Head of Quaker’s International division, Director of the Corporation (1976) and President and Chief Operating Officer of the Quaker Oats Company from 1983 until his retirement in September 1990. He also served on the corporate boards of Quaker Canada, Molson, Square D Company and Elger Industries (Chairman & Board Member). In retirement he supported a number of philanthropic organizations and served on the nonprofit boards of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital (Chairman of the Board of Trustees), St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Trustee), Glenwood Academy and Chairman of Business Mobilized for Loyola University.

In 1952 he married his first love Mary Margaret (nee Cunningham) of Bridgeport, CT and together they raised five children. After Mary passed away in 2008, Frank was blessed to find love again and in 2012 he married Josefina (“Inna”) Blanco Rivas a resident of Naples, FL and native of Spain.

He was an avid golfer, downhill skier, boater, reader and loved to attend live performances, listen to music (especially “My Way” by Frank Sinatra) and always found time to spend with family and friends, including his regular coffee club in both Barrington and Naples. He was a long time parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Community (Barrington, IL) and St. William Catholic Church (Naples, FL).

Frank J. Morgan was pre-deceased in death by his parents, Joseph F. Morgan and Anne (Moore) Morgan, and his sisters Alice Haynes and Helen Shortell.
