Frank Fruhauff

Frank H. Fruhauff Jr., 89, of Tomah, WI formerly of Fox River Grove passed away peacefully at home on December 17th, 2014.
He was born on December 25, 1924 in Chicago, to the late Frank and Mary (nee Pitter) Fruhauff. He attended Crane Tech HS and joined the ROTC while working at his family’s butcher shop. He graduated in 3 ½ yrs with honors and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Battleship New Mexico during WWII.
Following his military service he married the late Rosemarie Malmborg. They had two children and moved to Fox River Grove, in 1956. During this time, Frank and his family opened the “Big F Food Fare” in FRG.
On June 6, 1981 Frank married June A. Kriz at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cary. They relocated to Arizona where they lived for 24 years before returning to Illinois. They then moved to Tomah, WI in 2007 where they lived until Frank’s death.
His joy in life was his family and being involved in community service. He was a lifetime member of the FRG American Legion, member and president of the FRG Lions Club, served on the auxiliary police department of FRG and also on the board of Directors at First Security Bank of Cary-Grove. Frank was instrumental in bringing Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington to the NW suburbs. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce for both FRG and Cary.
Frank is survived by his wife, June of Tomah, WI ; son Greg (Sherry) Fruhauff of Litchfield Park, AZ; daughter Deborah (John) Opatrny of Cary, Il; stepson Larry (Lucia) Kriz of Elgin, IL; stepdaughter Kathleen Wood of Algonquin, Il; grandchildren, Katie (Adam) Deitemeyer, Beth (Jeff) Koopman, Laura Fruhauff, Justin (Christina) Opatrny, Tyler (Tova) Opatrny, step-grandchildren; Diana and Natalie Kriz, Jeremy and Nicholas Wood, great grandchildren; Christopher and Trinity Fruhauff, Grace and Nora Deitemeyer and Cameron Koopman; sister in law, Arlene Fruhauff and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer and Edward Fruhauff and step-grandson, Nathaniel Wood.
Visitation will be from 3-8pm on Friday, December 26th, 2014 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (Rt. 176), Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue at 10am until the time of service at 11am on Saturday, December 27th, at the funeral home. Internment with full military honors will immediately follow at Windridge Cemetery, Cary.
