Frederica "Freddie" Herriman Smith Pederson

Frederica “Freddie” Herriman Smith Pederson, 84, of Barrington passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her home in Barrington. She was born December 11, 1932 in Barrington to Claude Danforth and Helene (nee Hoffman) Herriman.

Freddie was a loving, gracious and generous woman who dedicated her life to helping her family, friends and community. She was a true philanthropist, known for her lifelong involvement in the Barrington community. Freddie gave of her time, talents and resources and served in roles ranging from volunteer to board member in many Barrington area organizations.

Freddie was instrumental in founding the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois, now JourneyCare. She helped launch the campaign to build JourneyCare’s Pepper Family Hospice Center in Barrington. Other organizations dear to Freddie's heart were the Barrington Area Community Foundation, Barrington Area Council on Aging, Barrington’s White House, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Lake County Forest Preserves, and Barrington’s Park District, including the recently opened Frederica Herriman Pederson Splashpad at Langendorf Park.

Many people have been positively impacted by Freddie’s kindness and support. She loved well and will be dearly missed.

Freddie is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Peter) Choo, Carrie (Laurence) Grant, Polly (Bruce) Douglass, and Emily (Bill) Reedy; her grandchildren, Phillip and Anne Grant, Christopher, Kendall, and Carrie Douglass, and William, Caroline, Brian, Julia, and Stephanie Reedy; her stepchildren, Terry Pederson, Thomas Pederson and Tracey (Kevin) Aaron; her step-grandchildren, Melanie, Tyler and Trevor Pederson; and her nieces and nephews, Jeff Herriman, Claudia (nee Herriman) Cannady, Kathy (nee Pomeroy) Roden and Brad Pomeroy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith Pederson; her siblings, Wesley “Pat” Herriman and Helene (nee Herriman) Pomeroy; and her parents.

A celebration of Freddie’s life will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Rd., Barrington, IL. A reception will follow at Barrington’s White House, 145 W. Main Street, Barrington, IL. Interment will be private at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
