Gay Mahnke

Gay Lauterborn Mahnke, 73, of Cary, IL passed away on February 26, 2016. Born February 28, 1942 and raised in Champaign, IL she graduated from Champaign Central High School and attended St. Mary’s of Notre Dame and the University of Illinois.

Gay loved large. She cherished her husband, son, and granddaughters. She enjoyed living and working in Barrington and attending every sporting event for her son. Gay never forgot a birthday, celebrated everyone’s anniversary, and was the keeper of great memories as she photographed everything. She worked as an administrative assistant at IFG Instruments and Inspect, Inc., the Barrington Jewel and Kirklands. She was an avid reader, college sports fan and loved to frequent Steak & Shake. For many years, Gay helped serve meals on Thanksgiving at The Greenery, and later at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Gay was a giver and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her son, Todd Stayart; her granddaughters, Kelly and Jenna Stayart; her stepchildren, Maria (Ed) Ward, Kymric (Susie), Christian (Carrie), and Jeremy (Ronda) Mahnke; seven step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; her step nieces, Melinda (Dan) DeVito, and Melissa (David) Eastwood; and her dear friends, Beth (David) May, Susan (Bill) Pierson, and Libby (Todd) Rieke.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David L. Mahnke; her parents, Paul and Dorothy (nee Pearce) Lauterborn; and her sister, Joy.
