Geneva Willen

Carver Willen, 94, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Bickford Cottage in Crystal Lake, IL. She was born June 2, 1916 in Horse Cave, KY to Sherman and Luna Carver. On May 30 1942, she married Kenneth A. Willen of Blue Island, IL. They lived in Blue Island and moved to Crystal Lake in 1959. She graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL in 1937 with a BA degree in History. She graduated from Wellesley College in Boston with a MA degree in American History. She taught at Horse Cave high school before marrying Kenneth. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 50 years and the Crystal Lake Service League. She was an avid traveler and loved collecting airline miles. She enjoyed collecting antiques, listening to classical music and the Gaithers; in addition, she was a passionate reader and patron of the Crystal Lake Public Library and served as founding member of the Crystal Lake Public Library Foundation Board. After becoming legally blind, she continued her love of reading by listening to books on tape and CDs. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Barry) and two granddaughters Julia and Jennifer of Eppstein, Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband. The visitation will take place on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 12 Noon until the 1 pm Memorial Service at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 East Terra Cotta Ave (IL Rt 176), Crystal Lake. Following the service, a luncheon will take place at the Crystal Lake Country Club, 721 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Crystal Lake Public Library Foundation, 126 West Paddock, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
