George Vincent Evans, 63, of Crystal Lake, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 17, 2025. He was born in Evanston, IL on May 9, 1961, to Robert and Nancy Evans.
George proudly served his country as a United States Marine (VMO-2 MAG-39, 1979-1983), a testament to his character and dedication. Following his service, he built a remarkable 35-year career at Hobbs Brook Real Estate/FM Global, where he was respected for his hard work and integrity.
George found joy in the great outdoors. He enjoyed local hiking trails, cycling, and skiing at Majestic, Breckenridge, and Park City. Summers were often spent in Lake Geneva, where he enjoyed swimming, fishing, and strolling the shore path with friends and family.
At home, George loved curating and executing home improvement projects and working in the yard and garden alongside his beloved wife, Cathy. He was passionate about U.S. history, particularly researching his family’s Civil War connections, and his love of all sports, especially football and golf, despite his begrudging loyalty to the Chicago Bears.
Above all, George was a loving and attentive husband to Cathy and a devoted father to Emily and Tom. His humor, compassion, and warm-hearted nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was the kind of man who was always willing to help others when they needed it, his gentle spirit a constant source of wisdom, comfort, and inspiration.
George is survived by his wife, Catherine O’Sullivan Evans; his children, Emily Evans and Thomas Evans; his mother, Nancy Evans; and his siblings, Robert (Helen) Evans, Daniel (Charlene) Evans, Theresa (Joe) Wendt, Christine (Mike) Consago, Sally Centella, Al (Kathy) Evans, Joe Evans, and Clancy (Tracy) Evans. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. Evans; his nephew, Joey Wendt; and his brother-in-law, John Centella.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McHenry County Conservation Foundation @ www.mchenryconservation.org or a charity of your choice.
