George J. Hager

George J. Hager, 92, of Barrington passed away peacefully on June 18, 2017. He was born on June 22, 1924 in Barrington to Irving and Irene (nee Meiners) Hager.

George was the first Eagle Scout in Barrington as well as a volunteer fireman and paramedic. He was a very active member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Air Force where he served during World War II. He worked at Hager Lumber Company, which was started by his grandfather. George was a teacher at College of DuPage and after retiring he helped his son at Hager’s Country Market in Barrington. He also enjoyed sailing, camping, bike riding and running. He was united in marriage to Frances on June 19, 1948 in Barrington. They celebrated 68 years of marriage until her death in 2016.

He is survived by his children, Georgann (Terrence) McNamara, Thomas (Sherry) Hager, Jill (John) Talbot; grandchildren, Mike, Kevin and Andrew McNamara, Ehren and Anna Hager, and J. P. and Megan Talbot. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister Carol Magro.

Visitation will be 4-8pm, Friday, June 23 at Salem United Methodist Church, 115 W. Lincoln Ave., Barrington.  The funeral service will be at 11am Saturday, June 24 at the church, where the family will be receiving friends from 10 am until the time of service. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
