Born in 1922 in New Bedford, MA, George attended Harvard University and served in WWII US Army in the Philippines and Japan. He worked his entire career at the American Can Co. where he was a research scientist, chemist, and statistician. He also initiated and ran the Can Company’s computer system in the earliest days of that technology.
George loved the water, from the coast of Massachusetts to Tower Lakes. He especially enjoyed sailing and SCUBA. He also had a passion for travel and adventurous dining.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, whom he loved beyond reason; his children David (Leslie) of Atlanta, GA, Jonathan (Jan) of Boulder, CO, Sarah (Gwen) of Seattle, WA and Big Pine Key, FL, Maggie (Eric) Backlund of Binghamton, NY, and grandson Edward of Brooklyn, NY. He loved them all deeply and equally.
George was preceded in death by his father Dr. David Damon Pratt, mother Della Marjorie Bailey and sister Jean Ogden.
George lived a long full life and will be deeply missed. He will be remembered most for his ready laugh and his unwavering integrity. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
