George D. Reeder, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 2, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
George was born on November 9, 1944, in Michigan City, IN. George spent the majority of his career at Fluor Corporation in Chicago, an engineering company, and then Great Lakes Credit Union in telecommunications. The Ancient Free and Accepted Masons organization was very important to George which influenced his spiritual life and his ethics. He served as Master and Secretary at Cary Grove Lodge and was a life member of several lodges in the far northwest suburbs where he met many amazing people and made dear and lasting friends. George loved the ritual work, and embraced the moral and charitable principles of Masons, and the idea of fellowship. He also served as Guardian for the Job’s Daughters organization where both his daughters were members.
George was a military history buff, gun enthusiast, and avid hunter. Some of his fondest memories are with his friends at deer camp. It was the comradery, male bonding and shenanigans that filled George with happiness, not necessarily the hunting.
George was kind, generous and really funny. He thought he owned wit and sarcasm. Mention once, in passing, an item that you would like to have someday and George made sure Amazon sent it to you. He sent dog toys and treats to folks with a new puppy; bought lunch for police or firemen if they were in the same restaurant; volunteered his time and resources to anyone; he never waited for Christmas to give a gift. He had patience, especially teaching many kids to drive. He had the gift of never growing up. He got in trouble with the nieces and nephews. During our remodel, he created a roller skating maze upstairs for the kids and made a space in the attic for TV, movies, and Nintendo. When Barb went back to school he took on the task of making lunches the kids took to school….peanut butter and jelly sandwiches laced with gummy worms. Barb got a few phone calls from the nuns over that.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara Reeder (nee McDonald); daughters Meghan Anderson and Elizabeth Lopez; grandchildren Jovani Lopez, Joshua Lopez, Sabrina Lopez, Rowan Anderson and Lucinda Anderson; great grandchild Esiah Nehemiah; brother Harry P. Reeder.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Reeder and Margene Sasgen.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s name may be made to Cary-Grove Masonic Lodge #1157, 28 South NW Highway, Cary, IL 60013.
