George Stankus

George “Yurgy” Stankus, of Crystal Lake, died April 17, 2015 in Elkhorn, WI at the age of 83.

He married Gladys “Kitty” Hereau on August 3, 1966 in Chicago. George was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1950-1954. He attended Knox College and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, the American Cribbage Congress, the American Legion, and VFW.

George is survived by his son, Timothy (fiancée, Tina) Stankus of Crystal Lake; step-son, Frank Pugliese of St. Charles; step-daughter, Barbara Sedan of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Colleen Pugliese of Chicago, Ami (Steve) Chambers of Aurora, and Katelynn Sedan of New York, NY; and great-grandson, Wesley.

In addition to his wife, Gladys, he was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna (nee Spolec) Stankus; and brother, Alexander “Duck” Stankus.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. The funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, April 22 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Paul White officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Crystal Lake.
