George Valentine

June 6, 1954 — April 19, 2014

George “Geo” David Valentine, of Milwaukee, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 in Crystal Lake, IL surrounded by family and friends.

A graduate of William Fremd High School, Geo earned a BA in Anthropology from the UW-Milwaukee, where he went on to work in the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Formerly of Chicago and Palatine, IL, he was also a part-time resident of Grand Marias, MN.

The family was given the gift of being able to say goodbye to Geo and had valuable and meaningful conversations in the last few days together. He died peacefully and knew how much he was loved.

He is survived by sister, Wendy (Gregory) Glasshof; brothers, Steven (Mary) and John (Teri); nieces, Jessica, Kacey, Courtney, and Carrie; nephew, John; great niece and nephew, Brooklyn and Hunter; and many friends who supported him through his journey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wayne and Helen Jean.

A private ceremony will take place this summer near the Gunflint Trail out of Grand Marias where Geo frequently went to canoe, hike, snowshoe, and enjoy nature.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: WTIP North Shore Community Radio, P.O. Box 1005, Grand Marias, MN 55604 or online at www.wtip.org.
