George Joseph Zimmermann

George Joseph Zimmermann, born February 22, 1930 in Chicago, the late son of Joseph Theodore and Theresa (nee Vonashek) Zimmermann, he passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, May 31, 2020 in Barrington.

On July 19, 1952 at Nebo Lutheran Church in Chicago, George was united in marriage to Carole Erlandson. They celebrated 64 joyful years of marriage until her passing in 2016. George will be dearly remembered as a devoted servant to the church. He was always fond of ushering, and if the church needed anything from the hardware store, he would be happy to make a special delivery.  The Hardware business was indeed his life, but he loved being with his family as well. Sundays were always a big family day and he cherished those. His constant smile and gratitude made him a favorite at The Solana where he resided after wife Carole passed.

George is survived by his loving children, Lee (Beth), George (Elise), Cheryl (David), and Kurt (Tera); his cherished grandchildren, Aiden, Caroline (Jonathon), Lydia (Jake), Summer (Matthew), Luke (Erin), Tyler (Carly), Kelsey, Justin and Jordan; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Nathan, Daniel, Samuel, Annabelle, Keegan, Ryder, Hayden, Finn, Lily, Violet, & Theo.

A private graveside service will be held at Windridge, Cary, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory may be made to Lutheran Church of the Atonement, Barrington or to the American Cancer Association.
