George Frank Zoerner, 88, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2021 after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on January 1, 1933 in Chicago to LeRoy and Mary Zoerner.
George was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict. George retired after working his full career as a lithographer. As a lifelong member of the American Turners, he was a gymnast and a volleyball player. George was a skilled artist, passionate about golf, enjoyed traveling, doing puzzles and drinking V.O. Manhattans. He was also an avid sports fan and loved all sports.
George will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Mary; his children, Mark (Laurie) Zoerner, Joyce Zoerner, Lori (Tim) Latendresse and Tracy Wharton; step-children, Dan (Mary) Lindberg and Deb (John) Gebhardt; grandchildren, Mark Jr. and Kelly Zoerner, Patrick (Anna Allen) and Stephanie Latendresse, Jenifer Wharton, Daniel (Christie Carrino), Claire (Dave Mellet), Caroline and Matthew Lindberg, Nicole and Christa Gebhardt; great-granddaughter, Marjorie Lindberg; his brother, James (Janet) Zoerner; and by his loving niece and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 1995 by his first wife, Carol.
Memorial visitation will be Monday, August 2, 2021, from 4 PM until 7 PM with a memorial service with military honors to follow at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Interment will be private.
